The Music in Art – Dhrupad Dagarbani series is a deepening engagement with listening. The paintings are responses to the discipline of śravaṇa—an attentive, sustained listening that gradually reshapes perception.

Dhrupad revealed that listening is more than an aesthetic experience. It is a way of preparing the mind: cultivating attention, stillness, and receptivity. As the paintings evolved, they became for me the space from which perception itself arises.

This understanding naturally prepared the ground for the study of Advaita Vedānta, where Śravaṇa—listening to the teaching from the teacher—is the first and most essential means of Self-knowledge.
In retrospect, the series marks a transition from listening to music as sound to listening as a transformative discipline, laying the foundation for an enquiry into the nature of the Self.
